Pointer value
From CONTENTdm Users Wiki
The pointer value is a non-negative integer that uniquely identifies an item within a CONTENTdm collection.
The pointer value combined with the collection alias uniquely identifies an item within your CONTENTdm installation. This is used in forming the reference url.
The pointer value is passed in GET parameters to item_viewer.php, document.php and many of the other web templates.
When an item is created it will be given the pointer value listed in the count.id file in the collection directory
