The Open Choice sessions are scheduled from 3:30–5:00 Monday, and 2:00–4:30 Tuesday. However, don't let that stop you from asking your questions or grabbing a mentor.

  1. How do you address scrapbooks and their condition prior to digitization?
     1. Have preservation disbind it
     2. After scanning, place in archival sleeves, boxes

  2. How do you address items that could belong in more than one collection?
     1. Custom Search Queries
     2. Issues with collections organized by subject or formats

  3. For a 400 page document – if it’s a PDF file, why would you want to break it up?
     1. To take advantage of the new viewing and searching function

  4. You put the image up and an order comes in, how do you use it?
     1. Email digital person directly
     2. Electronic order form
     3. OSU built theirs in to cdm.

  5. Initial articles
     1. Terry Reese (or any of the techy guys) has fixed
     2. Is on list serv
     3. Megan Peacock (wild bill museum) has two fields, display title and real title. No initial articles allowed in display (artist) title. This is usually for art, but in most collections, no articles allowed at all.

  6. For text collections, what is the point of the thumbnail, so sorts by Creator
     1. They’re on the server, so how can you get rid of them
     2. Could just make a test collection and pull them out and see if it breaks anything.

  7. Aerial photos indexed by township and range, how to put them in
     1. Map to coverage, but can title them how you want

  8. Full resolution images
     1. Used to do 150 ppi, now 600 as JPEG
     2. Use JPEG2000 full resolution to generate image as 10:1 derivative
     3. Use JPEG2000 as archival file?
     4. Is there an issue with printing?

  9. Can you have compound objects of different formats?
     1. Interesting question, should try

  10. When the system does the initial index, system creates a field nickname
      1. System named a text field with the nickname date
